Home Depot has created a smart home app that is intended to be an all-in-one solution for the smart appliances and accessories sold by the big box shop, but it’s unclear why anyone would need it when Google Home and Amazon’s Alexa already exist.
According to a press release from Home Depot, the free app, called Hub space, is available in the Android and iOS app stores and “allows light bulbs, smart plugs, and ceiling fans to be controlled from anywhere.”
It is compatible with Google Home and Amazon Alexa devices, as well as a limited number of Home Depot items from proprietary brands such as Hampton Bay and EcoSmart.
There is no need for a hub or additional equipment, and the platform already works with more than 20 products,” according to the press announcement.
